A story of family. A story of war.
As if having her home planet destroyed was not enough, Grace Grey must contend with a possible new threat – from her very rescuers!
Ever since she was a child Grace Grey has had strange abilities, and now they are coming to light. Abilities that her brother and her parents have been trying to hide, both from her and the government. It was possible she would have gone her entire life on a remote world without noticing – until alien war threatened her peaceful planet.
After her parents are killed and her home overrun by a bug-like alien species, Grace and her brother are extracted as civilian refugees by an elite team known as the Hellhounds.
With the lunar warp gate destroyed, Grace finds herself on an eighteen-month journey to the rim of the system as they flee the alien menace. With her brother James locked away in medical stasis, the only people left to watch over her are the very Hellhounds she was told to avoid. But do they really have her best interests at heart? Or are they not as sinister as James had wanted her to believe?
She is left to face all of these questions on her own, without her family’s guidance and shelter, in the midst of the evacuation efforts off of her burning world. And when an offer to join the Hellhounds is presented, she has to make a life changing decision.

Very entertaining and original story. The protagonist Grace Gray was uniquely flawed, yet remarkably powerful in her disposition. She presented a new kind of heroine in the world of science fiction--along with her "Hellhound" teammates. I hope a sequel to this book is being considered.Product details

Rex Seven Hellhounds eBook EJ MacDonald Reviews
Not just a YA book. This is a terrific book. I was so sorry when it ended, I wanted more!
I have noticed often that when I unintentionally read a YA book that it's really good; good story and good writing. I often despair of the writing and grammar in so many unlimited books. My husband told me there is a book called "Fix Your Damn Book". Authors of about 40-50% of the titles I have read lately need to buy that book.
So glad I found this book. Could not stop reading, great background and the characters really drew you in and the main character was a refreshing change from the usual, you really cared about her and the team. I can't wait to see what happens next, hopefully there will be a sequel soon!
Great story! Sucks you in right away. Action, space stuff, paranormal touches here and there, characters with more depth than usual. Loved the protagonist and her peculiar ways. Definitely want a sequel to read. Now. Want NOW!
One star off because for me it dragged just a little bit in the middle. Lot’s of time training there; I’m probably just too impatient for the meaty stuff. But that’s not really my fault because the meaty stuff was really good. Why wouldn’t I want more of it? If you don’t want me to want more of it then don’t give it to me in the first place. To paraphrase Roman Payne, “don’t give me credit cards, give me gold doubloons.”
I am not generally a fan of sci fi, often because there is such a huge learning curve getting in to all new worlds, peoples and hierarchies. E. J. MacDonald allowed me to learn about Grace/Seven's world by walking with her through her story. It was very well done and I was sorry to see it come to an end.
I will be watching for more from MacDonald.
This is one of the most thrilling books I have read in a long time and I couldn't put it down! Luckily I was on vacation so I could spend a few days totally absorbed in this awesome story. I was sad when it came to an end, though I hope that a sequel might be in the works!
A captivating book that really draws you into the world of the characters. While drawing from popular sci-fi; this book manages to carve out its own universe with real characters that are just as human as the rest of us, each with their own flaws and traits. The biggest draw is how real this universe seems; politics, corruption, war, religion, persecution, characters that learn and grow as you progress with them through the story. I felt a connection to the people in this book that I haven't experienced in a long time. I can't wait for more material to come out.
Such a wonderful, character-driven story. Terrifying phenom that grows not so much in power-arc but into a whole person. One thing I enjoyed was the speech affectations that were employed by the MC. Otherwise there is plenty more to enjoy here from elements that are normally found in the Space Opera/Galactic Empire category of books. The book ends with mysteries to be uncovered so I certainly hope this is just the beginning of an amazing series. I am so pleased to have discovered this book and author.
Very entertaining and original story. The protagonist Grace Gray was uniquely flawed, yet remarkably powerful in her disposition. She presented a new kind of heroine in the world of science fiction--along with her "Hellhound" teammates. I hope a sequel to this book is being considered.
